Its varied nature is rich with green groves, dense spruce forests and rugged rock pines. The landforms are wonderfully shaped by the Ice Age. Small marshes and lakes and ponds with rocky shores make it a real gem of nature for people of all ages. In Nuuksio, you might come across its signature animal, the endangered flying squirrel. However, bumping into Finland's largest land mammal moose is more likely, as the timid flying squirrels move mainly at night.

Koli National Park

Finland's best-known and most loved national landscape is certainly the landscape opening from the top of Koli to Pieline. Koli National Park offers much more than high dangers and wonderful lake views to Pieline. In Koli, you can also find old forests, rocks, marshes, streams, sandy beaches, islands, and in the beginning of the summer, colorful flowering meadows. Interesting excursion destinations are the Tarhapuro waterfall, which especially roars magnificently in the spring, and the Pirunkirko cave, which is a 33-meter-long crevice cave, a landmark left by the ice. Among others, Jean Sibelius, Eero Järnefelt and Juhani Aho have sought inspiration from these landscapes.
