Hi Santra, can you tell us about your own company Desantra?

Desantra has come true in the field of visual design. Desantra shapes responsible Finnish design that takes aspects of sustainable development into account. I design products with heart and passion and I don't want to let myself go too easy in the design work. Visual things have meant a lot to me since childhood. I am a designer by training and two years ago I dared to realize the dream of my own company that had been brewing in my mind for years. When I founded Desantra two years ago, I lived for a long time in my hometown Kuhmo, a small town surrounded by nature. The nature that opens right outside the window and the landscapes that change according to the seasons have served me inspiration and peace for product design in my home region.

Where and how are Desantra's jewelry made?

I design all Desantra products myself, from which you can sense the northern arctic and the stories created by your imagination. The first products have been jewelry, the materials of which use birch felled from Finnish forests. Desantra jewelry is associated with stories that give the jewelry a deeper meaning. Laser cutting of jewelry parts is done by small entrepreneurs in Finland. I assemble and finish each piece of jewelry manually into a finished product.

Which piece of jewelry best describes Desantra?

CRYSTAL - the jewelry describes my roots - the white winters of my home region. I wanted to capture a piece of the Arctic in Kiteet, capturing the sparkle and the beauty of ice. I want to share the story of the northern winter with each Kiteet piece of jewelry. VOIMANAINEN jewelry, reminiscent of Viking times, also has its own story, which has a meaningful message for its wearer. I have dedicated Voimanainen jewelry to all girls and women to remind us of the strength of Viking women hidden in us. The Voimanainen jewelry story is also included in every jewelry box.

What is Desantra's future vision?

Desantra's vision for the future is to continue designing products in accordance with sustainable design, i.e. to take the various aspects of sustainable development into account as comprehensively as possible. In practice, this means, for example, that I try to get the materials and manufacturers of the products as close as possible to the location of my company. I feel it is important to invest and spend time on design so that the product is aesthetic, functional and in line with the values ​​of sustainable development. In addition to jewelry, new products are coming to the product range that fulfill Desantra's values: aesthetics, sustainable design and domesticity. Last fall, the product range expanded with the Pine Forest interior textile series, which continues the story of my home region and the important things that appear to me in it.
